Nokia makes web browser for S60 available to Open Source community

With the success of so many open source programs in recent years, this is a really smart move by Nextel.

Web browser for S60 is the browser for phones and mobile devices using the Symbian OS. Nokia released the source code, as well as an enhancement/development kit for the development community. The goal is to reduce fragmentation in the next generation of mobile browsers, which is corporate speak for “the goal is to make this the standard phone and mobile web browser in the future”. Yahoo! Go

Yahoo! Go 2.0 today launched in the United States and has gone beta in 13 countries. The 2.0 technology is designed to enhance the mobile Internet. It is optimized for the “small screen” of a mobile phone, making it easy and fun to access the Internet. Everything about the Yahoo! Go interface is designed to be both visually stunning and give you what you want with the fewest clicks possible.

Yahoo! Go brings the Internet to you. Unlike prior applications that attempt to force-feed a PC experience to your phone, Yahoo! Go has taken the Internet services you love and optimized them for the mobile experience.

“People want easy access to the Internet on their mobile phones (and) we believe that Yahoo! Go will be a catalyst for broader adoption of the mobile Internet,” said Marco Boerries, executive vice president of Yahoo’s Connected Life Division.

The beta versions, now in such countries as France, Canada, United Kingdom and India, include the same functionality as the U.S. version.

By the end of July, Yahoo! Go will be supported by more than 200 different mobile phones. Yahoo! expects to expand that to 400 before the end of 2007.
