Expect a shakeup in the UK broadband market soon, with rumours of mobile phone retailer Carphone Warehouse planning to launch free broadband services. CPW is said to be poised to offer the free access to its Talk Talk landline customers.

The UK is already among the countries with majority of households and businesses on broadband connections (serviced by BT, Wanadoo, AOL, NTL). If CPW’s plans indeed materialise, we can expect either a higher uptake of broadband, lower broadband prices, or both.
