Zlango - Image SMS Language

You know, there are certain things I see and just think “yeah, the kids will love this, but I can’t ever see myself using it”. Zlango is one of those things.

Zlango is an entire image based language meant to be used with SMS. They have truly gorgeous icons, all divided into category and expression. It really is a language that has to be mastered, but with just 200 icons I imagine it’s not terribly difficult.

TechCrunch points out that users from entirely different cultures will be able to communicate through Zlango, which is a point I never would have thought of myself. It certainly adds another layer of utility to the service.

You can give Zlango a try through a simulator here.

So yeah, while I don’t think I’d ever use it, I imagine my 14 year old self would have found this to be pretty damn cool.
